Inspired by the Lotus

Buddhist symbolism regards the lotus as a sacred flower representing spiritual growth and enlightenment.  Although originating in murky surroundings, as the lotus grows, it breaks the surface crisp and clean. Emerging from muddy water into the warmth and light of the sun, the lotus is compared to an awakened mind that grows with truth, love and compassion.  Equally strong, and flexible, the lotus plant thrives in the muddy waters that symbolize attachment, craving and ignorance.

Many draw inspiration from this flower, emulating it's strength thru adversity, beauty in every stage of life, and flexibility while remaining deeply rooted.  Join me on this journey as I continue to explore the lotus from many perspectives, in photos, poetry and symbolism.
